She had lost her job two weeks earlier and without just cause, but what could she do. This wasn't a career that she wanted for the rest of her life; it was a job that she had to pay the bills and put food on the table until she could find something better. She had tried to rebuke the termination of her contract with the club. She had told a man no, that she wouldn't sleep with him that wasn't what she did. He had cursed her and hit her and gone straight to her boss. She had never like that man but of course he had taken the customers side and she had been terminated on the spot. Harlow had tried for weeks, but as she lived off the last bit of money she had collected in her savings she found her hope dwindling. What was she to do, she hadn't been able to find a job and as she tried to ignore the calls from child services asking her to come in for meetings she couldn't help but cry herself to sleep at night.
The knock had come as a surprise to her, it had been four weeks since the masquerade ball and she still did not know the man who she had spent her night with. Sure she wondered, they had had a beautiful night together, for once Harlow had been able to forget her problems and have a good time. It wasn't that Molly was a problem, but sometimes it was nice to just get out and spend some time being herself. She had opened the door Molly in her arms and frowned at the woman who stood before her, the grey pants suit set off her pale skin and not in a good way, her hair was pulled tight into a bun at the back of her head. It almost looked as though her tightly bound hair was holding her forehead from slouching down into wrinkles above her brows.
Behind her a man in a black suit stood his hands clasped behind his back a stern look on his face. The woman had asked to come in her voice was bland and complemented her lack of color in her clothing. Harlow stepped out of the way offering them in with a wave of her hand and a smile carefully upon her features. The woman had stepped in peering around the apartment in a clear distaste for the conditions in which Harlow and her daughter lived. The apartment was always clean and though it was not in the nicest part of town or the most expensive building it still looked quite nice on the inside.
They had all taken a seat in the living room, the woman who had now introduced herself as miss. Tate, it was clear why she was a miss and not a Mrs., and the man an attorney, Mr. Jacobson. She had not hesitated to shake their hands shifting Molly to her other arm as she did so and then taking a seat in an easy chair as they rested on the couch.
The rest had been a blur, a blur of anger and upset not a tear shed until the end. Their questions hit her hard and her answers were only what she knew to the best of her ability. Their prying eyes saw into her soul but with a cold dead feeling that made a chill run through her. She had held Molly close to her as she kept back the tears and narrowed her eyes on them. As their questionnaire came to a close she couldn't hold back anymore, she erupted from her chair wanting to run and never come back. But as she coddled Molly in her arms she could only stare in awe, "With no job and no way to care for your child we are going to have to take her from you to care for her till you are able to even care for yourself"
The woman’s words cut like a knife, her chest heaved as she turned away from the woman and held Molly close to her, she was never going to give her up, but as the attorneys words hit her, "If you do not comply with this choice there will be legal repercussions" Those words alone brought tears to her eyes. She had let her go not willingly but she didn’t want to put Molly through anything more then what she was about to go through. Reaching for her bag already packed as Harlow was going to take Molly out to the park that afternoon.
She saw the wonder and upset in her daughter’s bright blue eyes as she social worker held her close, she had kissed Molly that one last time and brushed away the tears as they beaded on her lids. Following them closely to the door she couldn't help but feel like she should just snatch her baby back and run, but as they closed the door behind them Harlow had no strength her knees gave way as she collapsed to the ground with a thud and her head dropped into her hands.
She cried for what would probably feel like an hour, clutching one of Molly's blankets she couldn’t bring herself to move, to open her eyes. Because if she was to then this whole horrible nightmare would be a reality. But as she opened them nothing changed, Molly was gone and there was no getting her back. Pushing herself to her feet she tore from the apartment not even bothering to lock the door, it wasn't like anything important was in there anymore. Racing down the stairs after the two she swung open the door just to watch their car turn the corner out of sight.
Her voice was hoarse as she called for Molly and she ran, down the street she turned the corner the tears blurring her vision as she tripped and fell getting back up again without much care to any injuries she sustained. Her daughter was gone, and all because of her selfish choice to keep hold of the little dignity that she had left. It was a stupid choice and Harlow should have known from the beginning that a choice like that would cost her. In this case it cost her her daughter.
She turned another corner only slowing after twenty of so minutes of running. She ran her hands under her eyes the mascara that she wore now bled down her cheeks like mournful black tears. Her eyes were red from the tears as she spotted a house. The person she hadn't seen in forever, the one she was scared of ever talking to again was the only person she could go to right now.
Taking off across the street the harsh scream of a horn stopped her short as a car raced in front of her. Glancing carelessly back and forth she moved swiftly across the rest of the two lane street without much trouble and tripped and stumbled her way up the stairs onto the porch. Her hand hit the door with a loud bang as she almost fell against the door grabbing to the frame she regained her balance the tears still freely rolling down her cheeks as she repeated over and over in her head, ‘please Konrad please be here’. Her only choice of a place to go right now and she could feel in the pit of her stomach a knot that made her think that he might turn her away, as much as she didn’t want to believe it they hadn’t talked in over a month since ‘it’ had happened and that to her could only mean one thing. He wanted nothing to do with her.

Watching as Matty and Cassie absentmindedly poked one another Konrad could not help but grin to himself. His children were pretty good in the sense that they could amuse themselves without having to bother him for long periods of time. Cassie peaked over her older brother's shoulder and smiled at her father who was busy writing notes for the next day's bunch of classes. Getting up the three year old made her way over climbing up onto the couch and leaning against him.
Setting his pen down Konrad looked at the blonde and tilted his head to the side "Can I help you?" Konrad asked with a grin pecking his daughter on the cheek. The little girl reached up fixing her father's hair and nodded slowly "Wanna know why ya frowny!" Cassie asked as she plonked herself down on the couch and set her hands in her lap. One thing Konrad had learnt from being a single father and that was his kids noticed almost every mood change - Especially Cassidy.
"Frowny huh?" Kon asked softly shaking his head he reached out running his fingers through his child's hair "Not frowny, Just thinking" The male replied. If truth be told Konrad had been frowning a lot recently. His mind was going over the events of that night. How his best friend had for that night become his lover and how they had avoided one another since then. Konrad had not plucked up the courage to actually call Harlow but neither had she from the looks of it.
Matty's attention was drawn away from the TV by the voices of his father and sister. Frowning slightly the Six year old stood and hurried over to the couch sitting himself on the other side of his father. Konrad laughed "Here I was thinking I could get some of this work done" The male joked "Guess not!" Slinging his arm over Matty's shoulder Konrad smiled.
Matty reached over for the remote and turned the TV off before he turned to face his father fully. Folding his arms across his chest the kid shook his head "You've gotta tell us what's wrong. Ya been frowning for days now Da! and like you keep tellin me your face's gonna stick like that you know!" He said in the most authoritative tone he could muster. Cassie nodded in agreement "Yeah Da..gotsta tell us what's wrong!" She chirped taking hold of his hand "cuz we's here to helps!" She added with a bright smile.
Unable to keep a straight face Konrad bit down on his lip and chuckled nodding slowly "Well seeing as you've both cornered me guess I could tell you what's up...but...dunno how you will take it" He said with a mischievous grin spreading across his face. Matty remained serious but Cassidy had already realized what was coming and let out a squeak as has father pulled her into his lap and tickled her. Matty's seriousness soon faded as he dove on top of his father and tried to wrestle him "AHHH!" Konrad yelped frowning as he heard a knock on the door "Oi Matz get off me" Konrad said as he set Cassidy free and stood up moving to the door with Matty still clinging onto him with his arms around his shoulders.
Opening the door Konrad's eyes widened at the sight of who was stood out there. "Harlow?" Konrad said softly grabbing "HARWOW!" Came the squeaky voice of Cassidy who was grabbed by the arm by Konrad before she ran out to greet the female. Picking the little girl up Konrad narrowed his eyes. His smile had faded but not because Harlow was there, but because his friend seemed troubled. With Matty still on his back and Cassidy tucked under his arm the male stepped aside to let Harlow in "Come in, Come in!" The Irish man almost ordered.
Cassidy being very stealthy managed to wriggle her way free from her father's grasp and took off through the door jumping towards Harlow the little girl wrapped her arms around her hugging the woman's legs "I missed chu Harwow!" She said grinning excitedly. The fact that Harlow seemed so distressed was not phasing the three year old STATUS - DONE TAGGED - HARLOW/VIXXY WORDS - Well I didn't exactly count Notes - So sowwy it took me so long to post for yous <3

She didn’t know what to think, much less what to do. She was missing the one thing in her life that meant anything to her and right now she was lost, she didn’t know what to do what to think and the only person she had in her life to help her through things like this was the one person that she had let herself sleep with. She had sworn that no matter what feelings she ever had for Konrad that she would keep it to best friend alone. They had grown so close in the time that they had known each other. They were best friends, they were like a family, Konrad helped with Molly and Harlow was more then happy to help with Matty and Cassie. Those two were the only family she had, but she had ruined all of that when she let herself forget all that she had promised. Her life had crashed down on her that morning when she rolled over and he was laying there next to her. Alcohol was one of those things that she knew was trouble but she had never thought of it as that much of a problem, until that morning.
But here she stood on his doorstep crying like a fool and in front of his beautiful children as well. She was taken back when the door opened and they all looked so happy. Turning away she instantly brought her slim fingers to her eyes trying to wipe the tears and mascara from beneath them. She didn’t want to trouble those two happy children with her problems, it was something she shouldn’t be dumping on Konrad and she wasn’t about to let it affect them as well. As he looked her over she saw the look in his eyes, it wasn’t that he was mad but he was worried I guess worried about why she looked the way she did.
She prayed for a mirror to appear before her so she could make herself look presentable, but more than anything she prayed that she would just disappear. It was too early to deal with this, just looking at him brought up those feelings and that hurt from that night. She had felt so much and she had to hide it all away because though that was the reason she acted that way the night they were together he knew that is was a mistake and she never wanted to have that conversation with him. She never wanted to hear that and she never wanted to utter those words. Stepping into the foyer as Cassie latched herself onto one of Harlow’s legs the young lady spotted a mirror on the wall. Looking at her complexion she frowned and wiped under her eyes a couple more times and then sniffled finally half satisfied with the look that now clouded over her upset.
Whisking Cassie up into her arms she kissed the little girl on the cheek and spoke her voice light and airy as she forced herself to not look upset, “Why hello my dear, man are you a big girl” She was cheery and happy as she looked to Cassie, but as she let her eyes wander up and catch Konrad she frowned, “I really shouldn’t have bothered you Konrad I’m sorry I should go” Running her free hand down Cassies back with a bright smile she pushed her feelings down, her upset and pain hidden from them as she took one last look at Konrad and set Cassie back down turning toward the door. She was happy that neither of his children had noticed her distress and were just as happy as before she walked through the door, it would make it easier for her to gracefully bow out and they could go back to what they were doing before.

Cassie was more than over joyed to see Harlow. The child had no mother figure in her life and with two guys to live with she normally sulked far more than Matty did, and man did she sulk! Konrad could see the look in Harlow's eyes, The sadness in the way she held herself. But with the children present he doubted he could get her to talk. The Irish-Man managed to get Matty down from his back and set his hands firmly on his son's shoulders "How about you take Cass into the living room so me and Harlow can talk ok?" He instructed his son in a tone which left no real room for question.
Matty peered up at his father and nodded slowly. Knowing better than to actally try and question his dad when he had that look in his eyes. Moving forewards Matty grabbed a hold of Cass' hand as soon as Harlow set her down. Looking up at the woman the Six year old smiled and nodded before heading back into the living room. Matty normally said very little, He observed everything taking in each and every detail where-as Cassidy would never shut up. As Konrad turned to face Harlow he saw her heading for the door.
Moving quickly towards the living room Konrad peered inside before he pulled the door shut and hurried after Harlow. He reached out grabbing her arm carefully and pulling her to him. Without saying a word the Irish-Man wrapped his arms around the female's frail form and held her close to him. Nothing needed to be said right there and then. For a long moment Konrad held Harlow close to him. Brushing his fingers lightly through her hair.
Finally he pulled back and cupped her face in his hands "You're not going anywhere in this state Harlow. Not letting you." Reaching one hand down he linked his fingers with her's leaving one hand rested against her cheek, His thumb absentmindedly brushed against it "You're coming inside with me. We're going to go to the kitchen. The kids are watching TV in the living room..and you're going to tell me what's got you so worked up. Understand?"

She didn’t know what to say or do; she had for some reason just expected Konrad to answer the door. But she knew that wasn’t the case even though as she stood outside she wished to spill everything that had just happened to her to him. She knew that though they had slept together she still regarded him as her best friend but she just needed to know that he thought of her the same way. It was hardest when she left that morning, as she looked back on the motel while she waited for a cab she wanted to go back to crawl back into bed with him and just rest her head against his chest. But she couldn’t that wasn’t how things were supposed to play out between the two; it was never meant to be that way. He thought of them strictly as friends and she knew that she had to uphold her side of the bargain and keep it that way.
As she watched him let Matty down and then tell him to take his sister to the other room she smiled at the boy. He knew that something was up she could see it in his eyes but she smiled none the less. She wasn’t about to bother him with something like that, he was a child and didn’t deserve the grief that only an adult should be forced to deal with. As Konrad headed down the hall away from her her body turned from him and she rested her hand on the door knob turning it as his hand caught her arm and he turned her toward him. She almost ran into him with the force that he used when he turned her. But she welcomed it resting her head against his chest as the tears ran freely down her cheeks and she looked at the floor.
His fingers in her hair calmed her soft sobs as she brought her hand up to wipe her eyes, “I’m sorry Konrad” She was speaking of that night, of what had happened between them, “I was just scared to call you” She said her voice was about as frail as she looked. Her eyes popped open as she looked up at him biting her lip as she tried to look a little more optimistic then she looked. She felt his fingers link with his a smile flickered across her mournful features as she knew that he wasn’t mad, he was so forceful when it came to her telling him about her problems. He was truly a caring person and one of the only she had met in her entire life, she wasn’t about to let something like that slip away.
His hand still rested against her cheek brushing softly she leaned her face against his hand her eyes fluttering closed once again as she just smiled. She had missed him that much was obvious; she had missed their conversations hanging out with him. She had missed matty and Cassie but more than anything she had just missed knowing that someone was there for her no matter what happened in her life. She always had someone to talk to. “Ok” she nodded softly as she spoke and then managed to step away from him her fingers still intertwined with his as she stepped into the kitchen and dropped hopelessly into a chair. Letting his hand go she frowned and rested her face in her hands speaking softly so the children wouldn’t hear, “I lost my job Konrad” She started the tears running down her cheeks again as she continued, “And today a social worker showed up and” She sobbed gently looking up at him with pained eyes, “she took Molly from me” The sobs continued as she ran a hand over her head pushing her hair from her eyes and dropping her blue voids to the ground as she cried.

Konrad could hear the kids laughing in the living room. Smiling for a moment the Irish Man brushed his fingers through his hair "You don't need to be sorry ok?" He said softly moving towards the coffee machine and pressing the on button. Konrad reached for two mugs setting them down before he turned to face the female. "You came here and that's what counts" Moving back towards his friend Kon took a steat next to her. He had no idea what had happened, Or what was going on.
I lost my job Kon Frowning a little the Irish man looked a little confused. How could loosing a job make her this upset but as soon as the sentence escaped her lips the male's eyes widened. Reaching down for Harlow's hands Konrad stared at her for a long moment. Not able to actually beleive what he had heard. "T.They took Molly away?!" It had not crossed Konrad's mind to ask where Molly was. He had just taken it for granted that the little girl was with a babysitter or something.
Shaking his head the Irish-Man rose to his feet. Molly was like a daughter to him. She was precious and well loved and besides Harlow was an amazing mother who in their right minds would have seperated such a loving mother and daughter pairing? Without realizing it Konrad began to pace back and forth trying to make sense of all of it stopping only when he heard his kids beginning to laugh. "One second Harlow" Said the Irish Man.
Moving from the kitchen towards the living room Konrad opened the door and peered inside "Hey you two it's late ok so, How about you turn off the TV and go wash your teeth. I'll be up to tuck you in" The two children turned to look at their father and were about to protest before he narrowed his eyes. Matty rose first turning the TV off and hurrying out of the living room and up the stairs. Cassidy lagged behind and slowly made her way up shaking her head and muttering like a little madame under her breath. Once the kids were upstairs Konrad hurried back into the kitchen where Harlow was.
Taking a seat once again beside his friend Konrad took hold of both of her hands "We're going to get Molly back ok?" Squeezing Harlow's hands tightly Konrad looked at her "We're going to sort this out and bring Molly home I swear it Harlow. Ok so tell me what exactly did the social worker say? and now you don't have a job does that mean that you need someplace to stay because you know you and Molly are welcome here. Molly can sleep with Cass in her room and you can take my room..and I'll take the couch of course" Releasing her hands Konrad slid off the chair kneeling infront of Harlow and pulled her into yet another tight hug "I'm going to help you ok I swear baby" He had not realized what he was saying "I'll help you get Molly back she needs her mom.." Rubbing Harlow's back lightly Konrad closed his eyes only to pull back slowly and open them in enough time to catch Harlow's eyes. His breath hitched at the closeness between them but he quickly rose to his feet heading towards the coffee machine

As she sat there she couldn’t think of anything, anything other than she didn’t have a daughter anymore. Where was Molly? Had another family taken her, was she in a home with a bunch of other children. She couldn’t bear to think of what her daughter was going through right now, what was going through Molly’s mind as she sat there wondering where her mother was. Harlow could only dread the possibility that she would never see her daughter again, that she wasn’t going to be able to get her back. So many horrible thoughts ran through her mind as she sat there in Konrads kitchen, the tears ran endlessly as she wondered what to do. She was lost never realizing that something like this could ever happen. Yet here she was without her daughter because of a stupid choice on her end going to someone that she hadn’t talk to in months for help.
She saw the distress in his face and instantly wished that she hadn’t bothered him with her problems. She was sorry that she had barged into his home and brought all this horrible news to her attention. But unlike other problems she had Harlow couldn’t solve this one on her own, she had nowhere to turn and no idea what to do. But it was nice that he had welcomed her in and was trying to calm her down. She dreaded that he was going to turn her away but as he looked at her pain in his eyes she knew that he was still going to be there for her and she didn’t have to worry about that.
She nodded as she spoke and then dropped her head back into her hands shaking it slightly and then leaning against the back of the chair and looking over at him. Hearing the kids in the other room she couldn’t help but smile at their giggles and cassies shrieks of laughter. She was such a beautiful little girl and it only hurt her more to hear that, but she was glad his kids were growing perfect and happy and everything was going well with him. She watched him pace back and forth as if he was to wear a grove into the floor beneath his ever moving feet. Running her hands over her head she pushed the blonde tendrils from her eyes and watched him leaved the room pulling her legs up under her on the chair.
She was staring at the ground when Konrad came back in her eyes concentrating on something that wasn’t there. His hands felt warm against her cold skin as he took her hands gently in his, closing her eyes she tried to keep from crying again as he spoke. She could only nod as he told her that he was going to get Molly back, she forced a bright smile onto her face as she watched him so optimistic where she was just a mess. Taking a ragged breath she looked up at him her eyes probably quite red from crying, '“She told me that they were taking Molly till I am even able to care for myself” the words were hard for her to get out as she uttered the last word she burst into tears again and bit her lip trying to keep from sobbing.
She shook her head as he spoke, “No I am not going to intrude Konrad, i won't do that” her eyes never left his for a few seconds but then she forced herself to look away from him. She couldn’t just sit there staring at him after all. Dropping her eyes to the ground once more she then forced herself to look around before speaking, “they aren’t going to give her back to me Konrad, I don’t know what to do” Her voice was completely hopeless there was no optimism in her words and her shoulders slumped in defeat. His arms around her made her feel better they made her warm inside, almost like there was hope somewhere deep down, “thank you Konrad thank you so much” His words almost didn’t register but she thought nothing of them, he was just being friendly. As her eyes popped open when he pulled back she found herself staring back into his blue eyes, the proximity between them was almost nothing. But as he stood up and headed for the coffee maker she looked after him for a second and then turned and looked away trying to pay no heed to that moment.

Konrad would not have considered himself to be anything close to being father of the year. Actually he thought of himself as nothing more than a regular dad. Sure his homelife was normally peaceful when Cassie and Matty were not having one of their fights which actually almost always turned out pretty funny since Cassie had the upper hand on her older and more reserved brother.
Pouring the steaming liquid into the mugs Konrad peered over his shoulder at Harlow. He could not imagine the heartache she was going through. Hell he doubted he would be able to function if something like that happened to him. Moving across the kitchen and back towards his friend the Irish Man set the mug down before her and took his seat again. Reaching across the table Konrad took Harlow's hand. "Until you can care for yourself again?" He asked shaking his head "They come up with some bullshit sometimes. I mean you're not a whore or a drug addict you love that baby, you're an amazing mother...the system is fucked up"
Rubbing his thumb across Harlow's hand the male shook his head and stood up moving to stand behind her and softly he began to rub her shoulders "I might not have to help as you put it but I want to help you/ Molly's like a daughter to me and I'm going to help. You are going to stay here and we will get her back...you hear me?" The Irish man whispered. Leaning down to kiss the side of Harlow's head Konrad hugged her quickly "Right you move yourself into the living room and get comfortable while I go break up the most recent fight" His blue eyes shot up towards the cealing and he shook his head on hearing the screaming and thumping of little feet on the floor.
Without another word Konrad headed up the stairs and into Matty's room where Cassie had her brother in a headlock. It did not take long for the male to realize what had lead up to this fight as Cassie's doll had lost it's head and Matty was most probably the culprit. Grabbing and prying Cassidy from her brother he slung her over his shoulder with ease. "Matty bed now..goodnight!" He headed out of the room closing the door behind him and crossing the hallway. Once in Cassidy's room Konrad set the three year old on the floor "and you miss bed..Now!"
After spending a good ten minuites reading to Cassidy who flat out refused to sleep unless she got a story Kon headed down the stairs holding a plastic flower. Moving into the living room the male lent against the door frame and smiled "Cass told me to tell you that she wants you to have her flower..she said it's magical and can cheer people up" He said as he inspected the item in his hands. "She said she doesn't want her Harlow being upset anymore"

She watched him pour the liquid into the cups her mind reeling at every chance it got. She didn’t know what to think and she guaranteed that she wasn’t about to be able to sleep until she got her daughter back. But she wasn’t very tired in the least, I guess later she may get a little more tired but all she could think about was her daughter and what must be going through her poor baby’s mind right now. She wrapped her hands around the cup absentmindedly and lifted it to her lips. She never drank coffee let alone black and here she was gulping down the hot liquid not even recognizing the burn.
She felt him sit down across from her and the only this that registered was the warm touch of his hands on hers, “that is what was said” Her voice was emotionless right now as she bit her lip and looked away from him. Gulping down another mouthful of the coffee she winced a bit at the hot liquid and then watched him stand and walk around behind her, “Konrad you know you are the most amazing person I have ever met” She said looking up and over her shoulder as she wrapped her hands around the cup again resting her cheek against his hand on her shoulder for just a second before looking away, “thank you for all your help, I know you don’t have to do it, you are really the only person I can depend on” Her voice was soft and airy but didn’t hold that song like tone that it usually did when she spoke to him or anyone for that matter.
Huffing a laugh she shook her head blonde pools flicking to the ceiling as she frowned at the sound of the giggling and thumping of little feet. As he stood and hurried up the stairs she watched after him, after he had disappeared she resting a hand against her forehead and almost threatening to break down again. Sucking in a ragged breath she shook her head refusing to look hopeless and hurried into his bathroom. Leaving the door open a crack so she could hear if he was coming she carefully wiped under her eyes and pinched her cheeks so they didn’t look so pale. After running her fingers through her hair and realizing that this was about as good as she was going to look right now she flicked off the light and dropped down onto the couch sitting just off of center and pulling her legs up under her.
Hearing his feet on the stairs she sipped the coffee drinking it slower even though three quarters of it was already gone. Looking toward him from where her eyes rested out the window she offered a faint smile at the flower in his hands, “Oh Cassie always thinking about everyone else” Her voice was caring and soft as she bit her lip a few tears slipping down her cheeks as she took it and let her fingers dance lightly over the surface of the item her eyes never leaving it the coffee on the side table beside her.

Heartache was nothing new to Konrad. He had been through enough of it to fill a life time. But seeing a friend who he cared so much for - Maybe even cared too much for - Hurting like she was made Konrad angry. The Irish Man was not the kind of guy to beat up on a random stranger for no reason. He could keep his temper in check most of the time. But people pissed him off sometimes. With the way they acted, Their lies and their deception. The world was full of two faced back stabbers and Konrad knew from first hand expeirience how much that could hurt. As soon as he returned to the living room with the plastic flower in hand the Irish man crossed over setting the flower on the dining table before turning to face Harlow.
"Cassie can just tell when something's wrong. She wants her Harlow to smile" He said in a soft tone. Sitting himself beside Harlow once again Konrad lent back in the chair but was silent for a good moment or two. Finally when he did break the silence he reached over wiping her tears with the back of his hand and shaking his head slowly.
"I'm going to help you fix this Harlow, I swear" Said the Irish man giving her a small but warm smile "We'll get Molly back and the pair of you can live here. No rent needed ok? and you can look for another job and things in your own time. But you'll have a roof over your heads and no bills to worry about" It was not an offer Konrad would have made for everyone. No he had a few select close friends he could trust Harlow being one of them. "Listen to me ok?" Cupping Harlow's face in his hands his thumbs rubbed her cheeks lightly trying to bring some sort of color back onto them.
"We'll fix this you and me...I'm always here for you I promise" Leaning in the male kissed Harlow's forhead and pulled back letting his hands drop he lent back again in the chair and looked down. The very thought of someone taking a child from her mother was beyond Konrad. Sure if the kid was being beaten or hurt but Molly was adored and if truth be told there were very few mothers out there who were as good as Harlow was. The system was fucked up, People enjoyed butting themselves into other people's buisness without looking at all of the facts. Just another flaw in society perhaps but one which cost innocent people like Harlow dearly.
"You are staying here tonight like I told you" Konrad announced suddenly "But not before you've had something to eat and then you can take my room. I'll take the sofa this thing is really comfy I normally fall asleep on it. Get poked in the side by Matty at like 7Am because he's thirsty though" The male laughed. Taking Harlow's hand Konrad rose to his feet "Come with me to pick something to munch on?" He asked.

Harlow couldn’t let herself fall for anyone, not again. Though she had ended up with Molly the best thing that had ever happened to her the last thing she needed was to bring men into Molly’s life. She didn’t want to be one of those single mothers that constantly had men around the house, she had seen too many of those. She knew that she was strong enough to do it alone, well at least that was what she told herself everyday when she woke up. Even at times when she didn’t thinks that anything was going to work out she had to stay strong for her daughter.
Harlow couldn’t help but smile as she leant back against the couch and hugged her legs up under her. “Cassie acts so much older then she actually is” Most children her age would act selfish and do what they wanted and what made them happy. Harlow hoped that Molly would grow up to be like Cassie, that maybe from hanging around so much with her that a little of that attitude would rub off on her darling baby girl. His hand felt warm against her cheek her eyes diverting from his as she didn’t want to find herself unable to look away. But it didn’t last long, a few seconds later her bright blue voids had flicked back onto his. She smiled as he wiped away her tears and blushed slightly.
“You don’t know how much that means to me Konrad” She felt him kiss her forehead and looked up as he pulled away. Their faces were so close and she found herself unable to look away, glancing to his lips and then back to his eyes she bit her lip and then forced her eyes toward the window once more turning her head away from him. She couldn’t let what happen between them fog over what she was trying to do; she needed her daughter back not to get involved with Konrad. She objected to staying here for a reason other than not wanting to be a burden, she didn’t know if she could stay with him after what happened between them. This was the first time they had talked since they slept together and she was scared of what might happen if she let herself relax around him again.
Resting her hands on her knee’s she let her eyes flicker from the window out into the daylight toward the mantle in his living room. She was trying to avoid his eyes but it was kind of awkward. His words touched her as she smiled and then looked back to him, “I don’t suppose no is even an option anymore” She knew that he was assertive and that he usually didn’t take no for an answer, but she could always try one more time. Shaking her head she rolled onto her side and stretched out on the sofa, “Nope I call the sofa, it’s your bed you take it” She said raising an eyebrow defiantly and then laughing. She slipped her hand into his and allowed him to lift her off the couch, walking just behind him she entered the kitchen and then grabbed a few pretzels from an open bag on the counter and popped one into her mouth, “I’m all good”
She was slightly hungry but seeing as she didn’t always have enough money to buy things she usually got by and only one to two meals a day. If she had to choose over her eating and over Molly eating she would always choose her daughter. She had also battled an eating disorder just before she got pregnant so she wasn’t too worried about eating. She found small things filled her up and big meals just usually made her feel sick.

Konrad peered up at the cealing. Smiling slightly at the fact that the little pitter-patter of tiny feet had died down indicating that Cassie had finally fallen asleep. "She's finally asleep" Konrad said looking over towards Harlow. "She does act older than she is. Sometimes that's not a good thing" The Irish Man stated. Both Matty and Cassie were mature children but Kornad often worried that their childhoods were being interrupted by it. They had after all been through more than any other children had been.
"No is not an option" Konrad pointed out with a smirk "You are staying here for as long as you want Harlow, You're my friend and dispite what happened I am here" Looking Harlow directly in the eyes Konrad smiled. He knew that she would know what he was talking about. Everything which had happened between them could be put to rest. He was there for her now and that was all that currently mattered.
As Konrad wandered into the Kitchen his eyebrow arched as Harlow took a few pretzels "That's fine if you're a kid wanting a snack but I bet you've not had anything proper to eat in a good few hours so sit down and let me make you something!" He stated moving towards the fridge and pulling it open.
Scanning through what they had in stock Kon grinned "Omlette?" He suggested "Just a small one and I'll eat half of it if you eat the other half" Turning around to face the female with two eggs in hand the teacher grinned "Is that ok?
As he turned to close the fridge Konrad spotted a small figure in the doorway. He smiled and tilted his head to the side "Matty come in here" Konrad stated with a shake of his head "What's up bud?" He asked as the five year old wandered over and began to bite on his lip "Why are you not asleep huh?"
Matty wandered over to his father and turned to look at Harlow. He had a distressed look on his face "Where's Molly?" Matty asked in a small voice. It was no surprise that the boy was concerned. Although Molly was a few years younger than him the two were good friends. Much closer than Molly and Cassie. Partners in crime some called them. Picking Matty up Konrad wandered over towards Harlow and set the boy down in a chair "Molly's gone away for a little bit but she's coming back really soon and Harlow and Molly are going to live here, Isn't that right Harls?!"

“I can see how it wouldn’t be a good thing all the time” Harlow’s voice was soft and caring as she spoke, she thought about herself and how she had been forced to grow up when she found out she was pregnant. So young and with no one else to help her she didn’t have a choice, she wasn’t a child anymore she was going to be a mother and though it scared her it also fuelled her to grow up faster then she had ever hoped. She had wished to keep her youth her carefree nature for years after, promising that it would never go anywhere even when she had her daughter. But it had faded without her even knowing and thought she didn’t regret her choice to keep Molly she knew that it wasn’t an amazing thing growing up fast. “I know about that growing up to fast thing, I hope they remember to stay kids for as long as they can” Her eyes flickered upward as she looked at the ceiling, sighing gently she let her eyes settle back on Konrad.
Her lips pulled into a broad smile as she heard what he said. She had never been able to sway him from a decision before and this was another one of those times. She was just going to have to give in and let him win, “Ok ok I will stay here” She said with a defeated smile, it wasn’t a bad thing but she didn’t want to impose on him, though he gave her no other choice. She caught his gaze her eyes never moving from his, she knew to what he referred but as she thought about it she forced herself to look away. She wasn’t about to let herself get caught up in all of this again, she had let it happen once and it had almost ruined their friendship.
“Hey” She said as she munched on the pretzels and then pulled herself up onto the counter, “I ate...” Putting a finger to her chin she tried to think about the last time and then started laughing, “fine you win Mr. Abernathy” her smile showed again, she was starting to feel a bit better about this, maybe he really could help her get her daughter back. “An omelette sounds great” crossing her legs she popped another pretzel into her mouth not realizing how hungry she actually was until that moment. Watching him grab the things she slipped from the counter, “did you want some help?”
Seeing Konrad look over her shoulder she turned to see Matty standing in the doorway. Smiling she looked down at him, “Hey” Her voice was soft and airy and almost held that song like tune it did usually. The look on his face perplexed her as she glanced to Konrad and then back to the boy. The words that filtered through his lips bright instant tears to her eyes, turning without a word she pretended to actually be doing something to make food. She was relieved when Konrad answered for her but as he asked for her confirmation she glanced up at the ceiling and took a deep breath turning to him with a bright smile, “Yea Matty me and Molly are going to live here with you guys” She said with a bright smile kneeling down to his level, “only if that’s ok with you of course?” She was joking as she smiled at the boy trying to stay as positive at least until he left the room.

If Harlow had tried to wriggle her way out of staying him then Konrad would have taken drastic measures into making her stay. Possibly tie her to a chair if that was what he had to do. No matter what had happened between them Konrad was Harlow's friend and that was more important that worrying about how awkward things were whenever the two were within close range of one another. Konrad bit down on his lip watching as Harlow explained to Matty what was going on decidedly not interrupting them. Matty listened intently without speaking a word until Harlow had finished. Nodding slowly Matty moved towards the female and wrapped his arms around her waist "You stay as long as you want" Matty whispered and ran off into the living room to tell his little sister the news.
Konrad smirked slightly "Five, Four, Three, Two!" Before the Irishman had even finished counting Cassie came bounding into the kitchen and threw her arms around Harlow hugging her middle tightly before rushing off. Konrad laughed and shook his head "I raised two very odd kids" Konrad nodded slowly. "Very odd" As soon as he was certain that the Kids were settled watching TV. Konrad tilted his head at Harlow and smiled."You don't need to worry ok Harls. I'll do everything in my power to get Molly back with you" Perhaps he had said it before but Konrad wanted to ensure that Harlow knew his words were true and not false ones to make her feel better. Molly was special to him too, Like a daughter.
"Oh crap" Konrad suddenly exclaimed without warning grabbing the pan which was beginning to smoke and shaking his head "Forgot all about the Omelet for a second there" Grinning Konrad scrunched his nose and grabbed for another pan preparing the items needed to make Harlow some food and within no time at all had the Omelet perfectly cooked on a plate on the kitchen table. Peering to the clock he noted it was nearing 9PM. "Ok sit down and eat..want something to drink?" Kon asked as he moved towards the fridge and pulling it open.
"We got a very sophisticated selection of cherry pepsi, Mountain dew, Orange juice, Apple juice, No that's my whiskey vodka, wine and beer" As soon as he had finished listing Konrad looked back towards the frail female "Take your pick out of my amazingly large beverage selection there Harls. Anything but my whiskey. I'm secretly an alcoholic did I tell you?" Laughing Konrad grabbed for a beer and popped open the top taking a long swig.

She didn’t know what to think as the boy stood before her in the kitchen she just tried to make it all seem like she was fine that Molly was really just off with a friend for a few days and that she would see her daughter in no time. As he bounded from the room the realization that she was really gone started setting in, the tears threatened her lids once more as she drug her fingers under them to keep them from spilling down her cheeks. She had cried enough to last her the rest of her life in those past few hours and she wasn’t about to break down again in his dining room. She wanted to look anything but weak right now though that was what she felt. If she could she wouldn’t protest to curling up in a ball and just crying herself to sleep. His arms around her waist woke her from that trance as she glanced over her shoulder up at him standing behind her. This all felt so right just standing here his arms around her waist, but she couldn’t let herself get so comfortable around him once again and breathed a gentle sigh of relief as she ran a hand over the little girls head and smiled gently down at her.
“Well you can predict them pretty well so I wouldn’t be worrying much“ She said with a laugh peering into the other room around the door frame and then stepping back out of site of the kids as her bright smile turned to a placid unhappy look on her pale features. Her eyes matched his as he spoke to her and she couldn’t help but smile up at him, “I know you will Konrad, thank you for always being here for me” She knew there was an age difference it was awkward for others but to her they had been friends for so long that it all seemed right and after what had happened tearing apart their very friendship she wanted to keep it to friends. She may have longed for his touch when she was in this state but she kept telling herself that it was only because she lost Molly and she was feeling vulnerable, there was nothing more between them, there couldn’t be.
His sudden exclamation caused her to take a step back realizing that though they often got lost in conversation without problem this was one of those times where they both should have been paying attention. Smiling she almost giggled but stopped herself and just watched him. Dropping into the chair he looked like he needed no help though if she would have offered him the help he would have told her no anyway. He was stubborn like that and though she was as well she knew better then to push back. As he set the plate before her she picked up one of the forks and took a bite, “forget teacher, I’m thinking chef” She spoke with a smile pointing at the omelette with the fork, “this is delicious”.
As he moved over to the fridge she took another bite and then thought through all the choices of drinks. She was thinking water but something else with more of a taste seemed much more appealing at this moment in time. “I quit drinking” she said passively and then looked away, he would know the reason why and she regretted saying that just a second ago wishing she could take the words and shove them back in her mouth. Following it quickly with, “I’ll have a cherry Pepsi please” Her manners were nothing less than impeccable. Harlow had been brought up that way and over the years it really hadn’t ever changed, she was still the same Harlow, just different.
