joseph elijah rufford, commonly known as joey (or 'ruffy' between male friends), is currently twenty eight years old. his birthday is december thirteenth and he is heterosexual. he considers himself to be a married man, though he's actually a widower. his wife of about six years was killed in a car accident along with their unborn son in the very early march of 2009. together they have had two children; seven year old annabelle and five year old jamison. joseph was born and raised in huntington beach, lived in anaheim during his teenage years and moved to san francisco for college - and never left. he works as a tattoo artist at a popular and thriving tattoo and piercing store.

joey is going to need friends. he's had a tough couple of months and it's his family and friends who have helped him through it - he couldn't have done it without them. he didn't grow up in san francisco but he has lived here since his college years (so we're talking ten years) with his now deceased partner, ellie. for the first four months after she died, he was in a really low and sad place. it's still a delicate matter and his world is a little bit shaken but he's trying to get his life back together. he's in the process of moving on with life and friends are vital in this journey. joseph needs all the support he can get, ands he is very thankful for the kind and caring friends he has. you can read his biography here.

THE FRIENDS ,

well joey is a really likeable guy. he and his wife would have collected quite a few friends over the last ten years. it's likely that he will have more acquaintances and average or good friends than best and close friends, particularly with the younger characters. it's unlikely that he would have high school age friends, but as he is someone who tends to be everyone's older brother (as the eldest of five children, it comes naturally) i am sure that to a few youths, he'd assume that role. his nineteen year old sister attends college locally, so he could know people aged seventeen and beyond through her.

THE LOVERS ,

not looking for romance, for the obvious reasons in his history. feel free to have some distant crush on him if you'd like but i'm not looking for a romance: he was very devoted to his wife and their family and it would be too soon to fall for someone else.

THE ENEMIES ,

joey isn't a hater but i'm sure dislikes can be arranged. he really doesn't like douchebags who treat people (be them male or female) like the dirt on their shoes. so if your character is like that, i doubt they'll be bffs! he can tolerate quite a lot from people though, but like anyone he can become provoked and easily irritated at times, especially when stressed or tired (he'll have a bit of an attitude during these times). he's not a fighter at heart, but aggravated to the point he's angry, you're in trouble as he's not a feeble guy, or a pushover. and he won't take your shit lying down.

if you want your character to hate on him for whatever reason, feel free! he's always well liked, it would be a nice change. as a non-confrontational person myself, i find it a challenge to role-play 'enemy relationships' so bear with me folks!

THE OTHERS ,

as joey's family and in laws live too far away to provide extra care, it would be nice to have a small support group of babysitters. no one new to him and no one under the age of eighteen (and they need to be responsible and child-friendly). he has to work and when they aren't in school or day care, he'll need help. having a twenty-something who has babysat for him for a few of years could be cool, like every four months so he and his wife could enjoy a rare night out.
